Posted by Chris Johnson On June - 24 - 2010

The wall charts are up, the sweep-stake is organised and a 42″ TV is primed in the meeting room for the 2010 Tour.

It also coincides with the arrival of the 2010 PBK Team Kit which is just one of the prizes to be won in our 2010 Tour de France competition.

What we want to know is: can you guess the total riding time of the overall Yellow Jersey holder in Paris on Sunday July 25th?

The 3 nearest times will win a complete custom summer AND winter PBK Team wardrobe. This includes a pair of Sidi shoes and a pair of ProRace sunglasses to finish the Pro look.

The Prize includes:

  • PBK 2010 Team short sleeve aero jersey, bibshorts, summer gilet and mitts.
  • Also for when the temperature drops: the PBK 2010 Team Winter Jacket, bibtights and winter gilet.
  • A pair of Sidi shoes and overshoes – completely your choice of size, model and colour (they need to be in-stock on the website).
  • A set of Prorace Chopper sunglasses with 5 interchangeable lenses.

Also throughout the duration of the Tour we will be having daily ‘Ready For Anything’ special offers, so keep checking the PBK facebook Fan Page for details of the daily deal.

As you’ll no doubt see, even the Pro’s develop bike and kit issues which we’ll be addressing and giving you unbeatable deals on items such as tyres, clothing and other consumables to keep you riding and looking good.

He is a two time winner of the Giro d’Italia, and the current holder of the title having won the 2006 edition of the Italian Grand Tour whilst riding for Team CSC and the 2010 edition of the Giro whilst racing for team Liquigas.

This competition has now ended and the winner was… Peter Farrell from Aukland NZ

Worst Team Kit, The Results

Posted by Nick On February - 5 - 2010

It has been interesting reading through your thoughts and opinions of what is the worst team kit of all time. I’m not entirely sure what I was expecting, as I thought there would be a clear cut view of something quite hideous. Maybe there would have been more from the decade of Day-Glow or some of the more elaborate designs gone very wrong, which when I say elaborate, I mean the one with a picture of a guy and his moustache.

It was rather interesting to see there was a big divide with very much a love or hate opinion over designs and maybe some of the comments had more to do with riders rather than the look of the kit. Dave in the office is a firm believer that anything Cippolini wore was amazing! Maybe that’s more to do with his love for Cippolini than the design of his skin suits. However if you’ve ever seen Dave, you might understand!(Well I hope so for his sake).

One thing where  everybody shared the same opinion, was that there is nothing worse than a design which fails to provoke any emotional response. Neither disgusting or amazing, just being plain boring is the worst offender of all. When you can’t see any passion or imagination in a design, it certainly does not deserve an investment of your hard earned money. You can wear a truly horrific team kit and pass it off as ‘retro’, but to be seen in that boring number, well that’s just unforgivable.

With a tally up of the comments it appears we have a clear winner, well loser to be more precise!

So with out further ado I can reveal the winner with most votes for the worst designed kit goes to………

( I believe the drum roll is called for but I prefer to build anticipation with a bit of a trumpet solo )

RADIOSHACK!!

So a big congratulation goes out to who ever in the Radioshack team said “yes” to the latest to go into the library of design blunders. It’s hard to believe that several people sat round a table and agreed that this was the look for 2010. Maybe lance Armstrong himself designed it and it was a case of the emperors new clothes..??

Thank you for all your comments, it has made for some very interesting reading.

Now here is one for you, if Lance pulls of something very special this year and wins the Tour. Will peoples opinions change?

Worst Team Kit Ever

WorstKit

galeria21373-002It’s that time of year again, when having seen the sneak previews of the new team kits, we get a chance to see them in action during the first Pro Tour event of the year.

There are obviously going to be some nice looking kits in the mix, but you can always guarantee on some hideous creation being dragged into the limelight, especially when to all concerned, it should have been left on the drawing board.

Something which always seems to pop up in conversation when the team kits appear, are peoples views on which they think is the worst team kit of all time. There has been some heated debate in the office about which kit takes the top prize.

The only way we can think of settling this argument fairly is by putting it to the public vote; that’s where you come in. Please help us by putting your suggestions in the comment box at the bottom of the page and we’ll tally them up and get a top five together for your viewing pleasure.

If you’re really lucky we’ll find a prize or two to give away in some competition related poll to help you with your suggestions.

Don’t forget to put in the year of the team kit you’re suggesting to help us track them down!

Evil Bikes – Resident Singlespeed Bike

Posted by Chris Johnson On September - 29 - 2009

Continuing the ever popular Track/Singlespeed theme at PBK and cycling in general we have just taken delivery of Evil USA’s new singlespeed bike:

Evil Resident

Evil Resident

Here’s what they say about themselves:

“Evil Bikes is an idea that has been a long time in the making. We are a family of riders, designers, and engineers gathering from a variety of action sports backgrounds. The sport of mountain biking and the desire to do something different is what we share in common. Drawing from out of industry inspiration and experience, Evil hopes to bring a youthful feel and creative look to the mountain bike industry. We are headed by people who ride, influenced by design, all with the goal to make the best bikes on the market.

Over the course of the coming year Evil will be releasing an expanded and re-branded bike line, including a wide range of suspension bikes featuring Dave Weagle’s latest suspension platform, the DELTA system. Thomas Vanderham is a critical part of the Evil design team and will be working hand-in-hand with Evil’s product managers and engineers to bring the products he needs to the trails you ride.”

This being their first single speed bike has allowed them to get the detailing spot on. From the shiny cable ties around the top tube to the super cool graphics and top spec hubs.

The graphics can be removed from this original and replaced with sticker sets which are being released every month by Evil and designed by a featured artist. So you’ll never be behind the times and if you have your own designs the bright white or lavender background will show them off well.

After riding the bike around the office and warehouse it comes across as easy to ride and very predictable. The brakes are US setup – don’t go attempting to skid with your left hand, the gearing is big enough to get a move on out on the streets (42/16) and the saddle is very comfy and looks great with its stainless springs on the back. The flat bar and dainty front fork look stylish, the hubs have replaceable cartridge bearings for easy maintenance.

It just needs a track sprocket and lockring ( Available here ) on the flip-flop hub to give a fixed gear bike; a great way to get around and quickly builds up strength in your legs. And a quick google search shows just how popular this type of cycling is (lfgss, fixed gear blog and fixed gear girls to mention a few).

On behalf of PBk we’d strongly recommend this bike if you need something for mainly urban riding and commuting, want to look cool (imagine seeing around your city centre) and also go out for the odd blast after work/ or treat your commute as a TT! The wheels should be bombproof and the drivetrain, being so simple is easy to maintain and fix. Also being able to alter your ratios so easily should give hours of testing fun on the road. Sizing wise the sizeguide is direct from Evil so should be accurate, I’ve been riding around on a small with about 4 inches of seatpost out to suit my 5″11 (6 foot if a girl asks) frame.

We’re now bracing ourselves and the servers for thousands of visits from people searching for the popular computer game!
