Dave goes for a ride in the Australian Victoria Alps. Checking out the climbs around Hotham Heights, Falls Creek & Tawonga Gap. I’ve added a map below if any of guys want to give it a go for yourselves.
Part I
Here’s the first part of a 2 part Cycling Guide thingy to the Great Australian Victorian Alps, based funnily enough in the Victoria region. Lovely place, and ace for cycling. I tackle a few of the local climbs.
Part II
The second video in my diary series of the Victorian Alps, in the lovely country of Australia. Cold wet n snowy weather made for some great cycling in this region of australia.

Hey Dave,
Love your videos and glad to see that you had such a great time in the Victorian Alps. The Alps are such an important part of Victorian cycling thanks to so many terrific climbs and some great races around the region.
I run a site that covers some of the best climbs in Victoria and, not surprisingly, quite a few Alps climbs made it to the list. You can find it here if you’re interested – http://theclimbingcyclist.com/
Thanks again for the great video and for sharing the love about one of Australia’s best cycling regions. Glad you enjoyed yourself.
Regards,
Matt
Dave, thanks for wasting my time. Appreciate the video as well as your clueless delivery which is actually full of good content. Anyway I was wondering what light you’re using on the front of your bike there in this 2nd video and if it measure’s up to your satisfaction? Also, is that your bike or do you rent one at your destinations? All the best, and thanks again for wasting my time.
Hi I’m using a serfas USL-5, picked it up a few days before heading to Bright as I knew it was going to get dark on me a few time’s. It did the job very well.
Just wanted to say that these video blog’s are utter rubbish and do nothing to showcase any of the highlights of the area. Where were shots of the views from the various lookouts and the surrounding townships? It’s all a complete load of bollocks if you ask me!
Sorry you didn’t like the video’s. Lovely shot’s from the lookout’s were few and very far between that long weekend. The weather was very grim and mist was covering most of the area. That plus stopping too often was not an option, you get pretty cold after climbing in 0-2 degree’s and hanging around to take snap’s. All that and what with it being winter time daylight hours were slim, I had to get a shift along to cover the distance’s I wanted to do.
Cool guide, shame about the weather. Its superb in summer, obviously still pretty unpredictable though. I think its great the area is getting more coverage. You’re right, its never really mentioned in any of the tourist info/travel guides. Slowly events like the 3 peaks and the Tour of Bright are giving it more exposure.
The only time I’ve tackled Mt Hotham it was rather misty too, makes for some cool photos though – http://tarra.cc/2011/03/free-peaks/
Nice one Dave, should have called in at http://www.casbakalpineunits.com.au here in Harrietville for a rest or ride domestiques to help you on the climbs in the area. Our accomodation is very bike savy and is a great base for training or general touring around on both road and MTB. Keep up the good work. Cheers
Oh and yes that sure is my bike, it’s worth contacting a few of the local bike shops too see if they hire bike’s. Get yourself there, you won’t regret it.
What a sh@te video! You could have put some effort into it mate!…. as Tony said, waste of time watching that!
